About Us

Matawa First Nations delivers quality, accessible and student centred education in a culturally appropriate environment to accommodate diverse needs and to ensure success for our children’s education and future. We offer regional capacity in education and training and promote learning to people of all ages, ensuring self-awareness, a healthy workforce and the nurturing of future community leaders.

The Matawa Education Department provides community-based educational support services for eight Matawa First Nation schools:  Aroland, Eabametoong, Nibinamik, Long Lake #58, Ginoogaming, Neskantaga, Marten Falls  Webequie First Nations.

In addition, our department has a strong focus on adult education and skills training. We also support educational initiatives that result in school improvements, positively impact the quality of education, while working with local education authorities, Aboriginal organizations, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, the Provincial Ministry of Education, School Boards, and Post Secondary and Secondary/ Elementary institutions.

With the support of our leaders, elders, parents, educators and youth, we identify and foster the skills and resources our students need for future success in life.  Not only to achieve academic success, but also to gain cultural appreciation, and promote self-confidence and creativity.

We do this in order to preserve and enhance our quality of life and to ensure that Matawa First Nations are prosperous and healthy communities in which to live, work and raise a family.
